Couch to 5K – How it’s Going so Far

It’s been two weeks and already, I can feel a difference between the first day I started running (mostly walking) as opposed to now. Why put myself through the Couch to 5K program?

WEDNESDAY, June 26, 2019  — It’s been two weeks and already, I can feel a difference between the first day I started running (mostly walking) as opposed to now. Why put myself through the Couch to 5K program?

Seasons Medical is sponsoring employees to participate in the Mesa Falls 5K in August. I had never run a 5K, or any K, unless a child was in trouble. I am not a runner, but I know this will be good for my health. I know that doing physical activity on a regular basis will also benefit me for years to come. 

About a year ago, my husband was told that if he continued his lifestyle, he was on track to get diabetes. He decided to eat a little better and start running. He’s feeling much better now. Running with him for the past couple weeks has been great for our family. We take our girls to the elementary school and then run/walk/jog around the building while they have fun on the playground. 

Sometimes we will have Grandma & Grandpa watch the girls while we run trails around Rexburg. The Teton Trail that goes behind Rexburg Rapids and ends at Barney Dairy Road is absolutely gorgeous. We are also excited to try out the Nature Park. I’m sure we will take the girls to Smith Park and Porter Park as well. This map of trails is really handy if you’re wanting to find places you’d like to go. 

I’m not sure if I will be able to run the whole 5K, but I am already building up my stamina more than I had anticipated. I’ve asked people who actually run marathons what they listen to and they said they like to alternate between fast and mellow music to prevent burn-out. Many soundtracks actually change up the tempo so I’ve created this youtube playlist for exercising.
