The period of time in which the body begins the transition into menopause. This transition can take between 2 to 8 years. Menopause is when a woman’s menstrual periods have ceased for at least 12 months. It usually occurs most often after the age of 45. This happens because the ovaries stop producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Symptoms can include:

  • Hot flashes
  • Lack of a menstrual period
  • Mood swings
  • Skin dryness
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Changes in sexual desire
  • Memory changes
